Network (probably routing) problem - please help
Hello,
I am setting up a local network between one windoze machine and one linux machine. Both have worked on the network before, but I have changed the network topology and the routing tables had to be changed.
I think I have the routing tables set up correctly, cut there is still a problem.
When I ping the windows computer from the linux computer, there is no response. When I look at the lights on the network card of the linux machine, they are BOTH flashing, which means that the windows computer is sending something back, yes?
When I ping from the windows machine to the linux machine, the lights on the linux machine are NOT both flashing, only the recieve light is going on. This leads me to believe that the problem is in the Linux machine. It seems as though the network card recieves the packets, but the computer doesn't see them.
Does anyone know what may be goin on?
Thank you.
-Brian

Can you be more specific about the topology and network setup of the boxes? Such as, are the two machines hooked to the same router or hub, using static IPs, etc.

No responce
Does it say unknown host, which would indicate an incorrect ip address.
if it is receiving it should show up in ifconfig in the RX line and not the TX line.

I figured it out
It turns out it was actually a cable problem. Two conductors in my ethernet cable were reversed and caused strange behaviour.
Thanks anyway.
