Network Printing

Hi,

I tried to print through a printer connected to my network. When I tried to setup this printer using Printing Manager and TCP, I got a unsupported backend: socket. What's wrong? What's configuration for the kernel is needed? THe other time I tried to print through parallel port and needed to recompile my kernel. I'm using Slackware.

Thanks.

Esael

If your printer is on the linux box, you have some options for a printing system,
eg CUPS, LPRNG ...

Type 'netstat -tan' and look for port 515 LISTENING
If it's not there, you will need to get a print daemon running.
I don't have Slack, but there is a config tool for local and remote printers, depending on how you access them,
JetDirect, smb, Cups etc.

Regards,
Peter
