network on reboot

Hi,

I've got a CentOS 5.5 (2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 ) running on VMWare Server hosted on a Win2003 box.

I am not sure why but the other day I started having a problem where upon reboot the network sometimes won't come up.

I have to restart the network service (sometimes 2 or 3x ) to get any sort of connectivity. (cannot ping, ssh, http etc).

Any ideas where to look?

Thx!

Spell out your words.

First place to look would be the system logs, like /var/log/messages, to see if there's anything networking related. Look for the "eth" string, that will probably give you some starting points. Aside from that, if it's BEEN working and now it's not, then something changed. Did you update the CentOS instance? VMware? Windows?? Take a look at the device, too, in the VMware console, to see if you're getting any errors.

Thank you for the reply. I hadn't thought to check VMWare logs. I updated the VMWare tools and it seems to be better so far.

I appreciate the help.
