Question Network not working after pc switch!

Hi all,

Hope one of you guys can help me, because i am totally new to Linux and stuck..

Yesterday evening i switched the hard diks of my server ( Ubuntu ) to another pc and now the network is not working..

When i type ifconifg i get:

lo Link encap: Local Loopback
inet addr: 127.0.0.1 mask: 255.0.0.0
inet6 addr: : :1/128 Scope: Host
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU: 16436 Metric: 1

and when i type ifup eth0 i get (found this command on Google lol) :

SIOCSIFADDR: No such device.
eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device
eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device
Bind socket to interface: No such device
Failed to bring up eth0

It used to work perfect before i switched to another pc. The router is working and the lamps are all burning as the should be. I also resseted my modem and router, but that also didn't worked.

My guess is that i have to change something in a file?
But i have now idea how and what!

Really hope someone can help me out! I would really appricate your help!

I tried to search google for answers, but can't find any answers there or just won't get it

Regards,

Penelope

Have you verified that the ethernet card in the new PC is working, or did work before you swapped hard drives?

Hi, thanks for replying!

Yes the network card works. It worked also before i swapped the hard disk.

Yesterday i tried ifconfig eth1 192.168.1.101 and now i can come on the server pc ( Ubuntu ) and see my website, but it is still not visble for other people to see it. I tried also to ping an other website ( ping google.nl ) but that also didn't worked.

Hope someone can help me!

Are you using DHCP or static? maybe you can just type a simple: dhclient eth1 or dhclient eth0 depending on which number your net card is. or ifconfig eth0 (static adress)
