Network not pinging any more.

Hi.

I had my network working nicely, machines pinging happily, was about to get to grips with Samba and I was configuring my internet sharing on the main machine (which I think has the problem) when all of a sudden they wouldn't ping each other.

My main machine says when I try to ping my laptop:-

ping: sendmsg: Operation not permitted

over and over again.

The laptop when ping the main machine just doesn't do anything.

Can anyone help?

I followed the instructions on this page when it all went down. I was trying to configure internet connection sharing.

I know this a bit old now but I found this on Google and there is no solution posted so...

I had a similar problem after upgrading to Mandrake 10.0. For me the problem was caused by shorewall. Disabling it or allowing pings through (in the drakconf security config screen) fixed the problem.
