Thanks to help from this site, I have finally got my modem to be recognized by Linux. I am able to dial out using wvdial, and it looks like I am getting connected

I know the Primary and Secondary DNS addresses of my ISP, but don't know where to put this info for Network Navigator.
There are a couple of other parameters, probably, that I need to supply somewhere.

How do I set up Network Navigator to talk to my modem and subsequently to my ISP?

Can you ping a remote site by ip?

If you can, just put name servers to file /etc/resolve.conf

servername ***.***.***.***
servername ***.***.***.***

If you can not ping a remote site by its ip, you probably don't have network yet. Try /sbin/ifconfig. It tells you your current internet interface. You must have something other than local loopback connection.

If you've successfully dialed and get the network working, ifconfig would show an interface, AND, ping an IP would be successful. Then the remaining question is the name server, which is configured in /etc/resolv.conf, not in browser or anything else.

I encountered problems like these:

1. minicom showed working, but there was no interface.
2. ifconfig showed interface, but the internet was not on.
