Network monitoring. WIFI network usage per device
Hello Linux Fans
My current NetGear N600 wdrn3700v2 does show my bandwidth consumption per day week and month. However lack details in that I am looking consumption per device (Most of them iOS and 1 Windows 8 pc on my network) network usage via WIFI. There are third party firmware for my router such as DDwrt however wondering if any other option exist in software perhaps. I am running Linux Mint 18 running VM and other laptop is available. |
I think some of the firewall/utm distro's have some statistics. You'd have to configure all lan traffic to go in/out of the vm/extra system and out either a second nic or create a second ip on the existing nic.
I didn't see the ability on the build I had for ddwrt but a few distro's exist. Many of the firewall distros have plug in's if they don't provide the information default. https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Ho...andwidth_usage Guess you could maybe configure unique ip for each device to access then monitor it. |
You don't say how you are using your NetGear device. Is this with ADSL and the connection is made to the ISP "directly" or is there an ethernet connection in the "WAN" port of the NetGear.
If the connection is via the WAN port then you could turn NATing off on the NetGear and put a device with 2 Nics between it and the ISP NTU and do your traffic management / NAT at that point. A quick look at the specs for that device doesn't indicate that one of the physical LAN ports can be configured as a listening/mirror port with the onboard firmware. |
