Network Load Balancing & DNS round robin
Hi,
I'm currently doing my university dissertation which is on server load balancing. The aim is to compare the two most commonly used software based load balancing methods, clustering and round robin DNS on different OS's.
My network setup consists of 3 servers and 1 test 'client' machine.
I plan to compare win 2k advanced server, win 2003 and one of the linux variations. So far I have configured the servers into a cluster with win 2k and win 2003 and collated some interesting results.
I'd appreciated some help on some of the other aspects:
1. Sorry for the non linux question. I'm not fully how to configure the 2 windows operating systems to use the 3 servers in a DNS round robin method. Could anyone point to some online tutortials or give me some setting up advice?
2. I'm not sure of which variant of linux would be best to use for project. I've read Red Hat 8 doesnt natively support so a app like Ultra monkey is required. Is this correct?
3. The servers each hold a web page which is access during the tests. I've found some good load generating software for windows but I'm struggling to find some good linux tests..could anyone help?
So if anyone could point me to some good online tutorials or give some help/advice on configuring DNS RR on Linux and Windows and Clustering on Linux I'd be massively grateful..I'm a bit of a linux noob, have a little bit of linux experience, so the more user friendly the better.
Thanks in advance
