Network Interface Limitations

I am setting up a snort server that I intend to load quite a few quad port NICs in to have on different subnets. I've been doing some digging but can not find the limitations Linux has as for how many Network Interfaces it can handle. I assume I won't be exceeding its limitations but now I'm just curious. The distribution Im using for this little test box is Fedora Core 2. Any ideas or references as too how many interfaces I can load?
