Unhappy network help

I had my network computer connected to a wireless router. The router has 4 switch connectors for ethernet. My deskop was plugged to one of those.

The I decide to move the router to center of the house for better reception. I bought a 13 meters cable. The Internet became really slow, but REALLY slow. I ping the router but I have like 25% packet loss. So I think maybe the problem was the cable. So I tested the cable with my laptop and ping again the router, and everything works great, 0% packet lost or 2% max.

So I thought maybe it was the ethernet card and I bought another. The new one could not even connect to the router. I use Mandrake 10 official. With knoppix I can ping the router with the new card but with a lo of packet lost. Any idea???? Why does the cable works find with the laptop and not with the desktop?

The old card is:

Intel Corporation|EtherExpress PRO/100

The new one:

Davicom|Ethernet 100/10 MBit DM9102

Well, you'll have to configure the new card. Do you have the right modules loaded for the new one?

I think it is something with the cables. Because I tried again with the short cable I was using and it work find again. What I do not understand is why the laptop card works great with the new cables.

I just run de mandrake configuration and it seems to recognize the card. But what I am going to do is buy a new cable and keep the new card until buy another computer or somethin happends to the old one.

Thans a lot
