Network down on eth0 in Mndrk 10.1

This problem happened about a week after I set up a LAN with a Mac and the Linux (Mndr 10.1) box with a Linksys Router.

Network card: VIA Technologies
VT 6102 [Rhine II 10/100]
module: via-rhine

All of a sudden the network could not start at boot, and I tried to configure it with the configure tools. Also tried reconfiguring the card. When I've gone through all options and pages I get a "success" message. Still no network.

In my tool bar I have a little network icon. When I click on that and get the network window it ,of course, says "not connected" and asks if it should connect ethernet. Twice I also was asked about an unknown network on a usb port, which is probably a "left over" from when I tried to set up a network with my PDA (which, by the way, didn't work).

When I do grep dhclient /var/log/syslog I get this:

DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 172.18.66.6
port 67
DHCPACK from 172.18.166.6
bound to 69.144.207.37

I get several lines of something similar. I only tried to reconfigure three times...

I don't know what this means. I tried to write down as much info as possible (as you can see ;) ), but if you need to know more, I will gladly tell you more!

Networking is, obviously, not my forte', so ANY ideas are appreciated!

this really looks like your linux box connecting to internet but it has nothing to do with the Mac-wards connection. you need a separate interface (eg. eth1) configured (see /etc/network/interfaces or sth like) to get it working? does your network looks like:

linux
|
router--internet
|
mac

? or there is a box playing gateway, maybe???
