Network DNS / Mail server Installation
Hello all,
Here is what I got:
Linux RH 8 server
Linux RH 8 client
MS XP Pro client
I need to:
Set up a network server that will also act as a dns and mail server. Then I need to have my 2 clients send and recieve mail between the server and each other. This is an internal project that I dont want to use a registered domain name or DNS. I dont even need it to have an internet connection, although that would be helpful.
I have set up the dns and mail sever and can send messages and resolve names on the server box, but am haveing trouble configuring the clients and having the server to talk to the clients (especially the XP client using MS Outlook).
Can anyone assist me or point me in the right direction for help? I have tried the how to's without much luck.
Thanks

If you don't mind coming up to a newer version of RH, then go to www.qmailtoaster.com and check that out. I help support some of the stuff over there, and it was designed to be as simple as possible for everyone to install. I run 4 mail servers for various companies with the same software, and have not had any problems. As far as DNS, if you are not going to use an internet connection, why do you need DNS? If it's just to resolve the email server, it's easier to edit your /etc/hosts file (Linux) and your c:\windows\i386\hosts file and just add static entries for the fake-domain you want to use.
