network device disabled by windows

Hi all,

I have a strange behaviour on my dual-boot system running Slackware 9.1 and Win XP.
Yesterday I reinstalled Slackware and everything was fine. My network device was recognized (b44.o), I configured with static IP entered the nameserver IP of my ISP and installed rp-pppoe with /.go-gui.
Everything ok. Connected within milliseconds!

After shutting down the machine and rebooting into XP I connected to the internet. Worked as expected. But after shutting down XP one active light of my DSL modem switched off and after booting into slackware I was unable to connect to the internet.
ifconfig says that my eth0 is there and up but ppp0 can't be activated neither by tkpppoe nor adsl-start.
Perplexed greetings
medusa

Hi Medusa,

I've had a similar problem with my gentoo installation. Internet works fine untill you've used windows. I understand you connect to the web over an ethernet connection with your dsl modem. Maybe this command helps (as root):

dhcpcd eth0

I hope it works

Hi,

the solution was rather simple: installing the driver for Windows that came with my ASUS A7V8X for the onboard card solved the problem.
Cheers
