Network detected but I can't use it.

Hello,

I just installed a new ethernet card into my computer (RHEL 4.1). Plugged it into my work LAN. The card is detected, the network is detected, my computer is assigned a name and ISP. Problem is that I cannot ping anything or use an internet browser. I restarted the network connection and that looked fine but it did not help. Any futher suggestions out there?

Cypher

Do you have an onboard ethernet connection + this new card or did you replace one with another?

This is a card in addition to the onboard LAN. Onboard LAN didn't play well with linux, so I installed ethernet card and removed settings/unworking driver for onboard LAN. Ethernet card shows up as Eth0.

Check as root dmesg | grep eth0
If that looks OK ifconfig to see if eth0 shows up
Look at /etc/resolv.conf make sure that looks ok
