Network connection between linux and windows
 

My case is in my house there are 5 pc's .. 4 pc's have windows xp as their operating system and another one has fedora core 4 as its operating system .. and i link all pc by a switch .. so can fedora connect onto da network? sharing file or internet? if can please teach me how to do it .. thankz a lot .. your help will be appreciated

As for the internet that depends on how you connect to it. Is it dial-up or broadband?

Thankz for da quick reply and da link .. well i use broadband as my internet connection .. i did try to configure da network on my fedora, set da ip, sub mask, and default gateway but still i don't get any internet on my fedora

Ok, so one of your windows machines is going to be the router/gateway device. Have you set this up to do that job already and are you able to connect to the internet with it? Also can you get to the interet with the other windows machines?

yeah .. all pc's with windows xp can connect to internet .. only da fedora can't .. that's da prob :(

Looking back at the other posts you said that you configured the ip, netmask and gateway addresses but did not mention anything about a DNS address. So first you need to check that you put one in. Look in '/etc' and there will be a file called 'resolv.conf' open it and see if there is a line that goes 'nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx should be the address of the DNS server you wish to use.

Alternatively if your windows machines use DHCP to get there addresses you could just use that method on your linux machine aswell.
