Network Configuration to allow internet connection through gateway computer
I've installed Slackware 9 on a computer which also runs WinXP. This machine connects to the internet using another (gateway) machine. I can connect to the net fine from WinXP, but cannot from Slackware 9. How should I configure my Slackware settings in order to connect to the network and internet?? Please be as detailed as possible as I am new to Linux.

take a look at /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1
This script is run at boot and sets up your NIC(s). You can edit this file to specify IP, Gateway, or use DHCP for you network card. Just use any text editor to change, then re-run the script to take effect. |
Is that all?
I tried that but it still won't work. Whenever I type in a url I get an error that says I cannot get to the remote host (url i entered) or i cannot recognize the url. Does it matter what my HOSTNAME is?

It works!!
I initial didn't manually run the script since i thought a reboot would do it. But now that I've run the script manually, it works. Thanks a lot.
