Unhappy Network Configuration

Hi!

I have two computers running Linux9. I always choose the KDE environment on both of them.

Both computers have a Lan card and are connected to each other.

In the network options I chose to assign a statically IP adress (instead of automatically obtain a IP

adress wuth DHCP/boot). If I chose this last option, both Network cards won't be even activated. So here

it is the configuration on both computers:

Computer#1: IP Adress: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

Computer#2: IP Adress: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

I can Ping each other, (and confirm it with TCPDUMP) but here's my problem.

I'm developing a C program with Sockets, and I just can't send a BROADCAST message with one computer (so

that the other computer can detect that a BROADCAST message as been sent by someone else). Can I only

send broadcast messages in a LAN (with more than 2 computers?).

I can't even create a socket in that C Program...

What network configuration can save my problems?

Thanks in advance!

Question Maybe you need root?

Just a suggestion... but perhaps your program needs to be run as root? Normally raw socket capabilities require super-user (root) privileges.

well which broadcast address u r using?
ur broadcast add should be 192.168.255.255 as u r using subnet mask 255.255.0.0

for this prob its better if u elaborate whice stmts u r using to create socket
anyway as far as i know, there is no special setting to be done to run a socket programming. only thing is u should have both the pcs properly connected with proper n/w card settings
