network cards and dual OS
Hi
I have a win2k system and now i plan to install mandrake 8.0 on the 2nd hardisk and have a dual OS. My NIC works fine with win2k and now i will buy another NIC and a HUB for my linux which i will run as a guest OS under VMware. So, ideally i will be running win2k as the HOST OS, then launch vmware and run mandrake and i want them both online so i can switch between the 2. Does anybody know of any websites explaining how to set all this up! i am also running DHCP so i also need to avoid IP address conflict. thanks for ur help m khan |
I think you don't need a another NIC, it should be able to have both on the network at the same time using the same NIC.

my cablemodem uses DHCP from my ISP and i dont think they wud give another lease so i can only have one IP. when i launch linux from vmware im then stuck! m khan |
well, we use vmware at my work and as far as I know, when your installing, vmware will ask how you want to make a network connection, and there is some type of option that asks if you want to make your connection thru the host OS, so i would think each one can have a connection on the same IP.

I don't know all of the details but what about virtual network devices such as eth0:0 and eth0:1. They can have differ3ent IPs and everything.
