Network card install trouble, but I *know* this module works!

a while back i was fiddling around with slackFTP to install slackware via ftp, and the network disk to use with slackFTP comes with a network configuration tool, which automatically detected my card and set it up for the installation, using the ne2k-pci module

but now i'm installing slack9 from cd, and when i do netconfig, it doesn't detect my card. i even tried editing /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and uncommented the line with /sbin/modprobe ne2k-pci

but it still doesn't detect my card
any ideas?

if you know what driver it uses do an 'lsmod' and see if that driver module is loaded. do a modprobe to install. and put an alias in the /etc/modules.conf file
