Network cable causing highload??

I have a database server (hosting vbulletin database) which has been registering crazy load these few days.

But one interesting thing is when I pulled out a network cable from it - it has 2 ports, one used, another not used (no IP). I pulled out the one from the port without IP - the load dropped almost immediately.

I find it queer. No connection going through there at all as of now... no IP... but.. it made such a significant difference.

You guys reckon is it even possible?

Yes it is. It may be that the second nic is trying to obtain an ip address from a dhcp server and that can cause delays. Look at your logs.

hmm but my config is "dead" as in, i have not set it to be active on boot... and i have not configure it for dhcp for sure...

and there's no dhcp server in the network...

but surely.. just by querying for address (if it is so) shouldn't cause my load to go crazy? I mean... it went like 50-100+

but which log should i check to verify this point?
