Network Attached Storage (NAS) - OpenLDAP/Samba integration question

Hello All,

Has anyone successfully integrated a Vendor-based NAS solution using OpenLDAP authentication in an Enterprise environment (RHES and FC4)?

I have been testing a NetApp FAS270 and the OpenLDAP integration is spotty at best - basically all password must be sent as cleartext over the network (which is unacceptable). I have also spoke with EMC regarding their solution and they are just as confused on how to make their equipment work in this environment.

I need a solution that:

1. provides dynamically scalable logical volumes
2. provides snapshot capabilities at both the file and volume level
3. the NAS appears as a member server of the domain with single signon authentication

There are tons of vendors who can provide the a solution for 1 and 2 but number 3 seems to be a real sticking point.

If anyone has faced this challenge (and won - completely or partially), I would really like to hear which vendors meet your needs.

Many thanks,

-c.
