I have been working on setting up a Samba server to function as the main server for my office. We have 4 Win98 boxes and 1 WinXP Home box.
My question is regarding how (or if it's possible) to set up OpenOffice on the Samba server according to OOo's setup documentation, which would be a "Phase 1 installation." Then I would want to do a network installation for each WINDOWS machine. The problem is, OpenOffice is multi-platform, which version would I do the "Phase 1" installation. (Linux or Windows)
Can a WINDOWS application be installed on a SAMBA server?
I hope my question is not to confusing. (Heck, I might be more confused than I think.)
Maybe noone wants to tackle this issue. However, I was in a Barnes & Noble bookstore and spent some times looking in a book "Samba Unleashed" and found the answer to my question.
Do you mean for the Linux server to do most of the work and have it spit it out to the Windows machine?
Or do you nead having the main program files install on the server and just what is needed on the Windows machines?
Thanks for the response. I was intending to have the main installation files on the SAMBA Server, and I have figured out that I can do that. I then would install OOo on each Win98 client. From my preliminary test I have found that by installing OOo via the network, the process is somewhat slow. So I have decided to install OOo on each client thereby increasing the overall performand of the network.
