Netgear FA311 problems on Redhat 7.1
Hi... I have just installed Redhat 7.1 on my server, it has 2 network cards... both Netgear FA311's.
Redhat detected them and used the right module (natsemi) during the installation, but now that I have it setup and on a network, when I try to download something, browse webpages, etc... I get EXTREMELY slow speeds and time outs...
and when I did ifconfig I found that both eth0 and eth1 had many errors reported.
anyone had any troubles with these cards? or know what's wrong?
thanks,

I tried using one of these cards and never did get it to work reliably, eventually switched to 3Com
If you call the support folks at Netgear, they'll tell you that this card is not supported on RH greater than 6.0. I also seem to remember that they stated it should be using the tulip module....
Good luck.

Hi
I think RH7.1 has a 2.4 kernel. The card is definitely supported in the kernel by the natsemi dp83810 (think that's the no, at work so can't check) module. I have upgraded to 2.4.7 and installed the driver into the kernel, and all works fine.
I would check hubs and cables first, has caused me significant trouble in the past!
It may be a problem with having two identical cards. What happens if you remove one of them?? I've got a spare fa311 at home, so I'll stick it in my box when I get home (tomorrow) and see if I have similar probs.

fa311tx
I have 2 fa311tx, and 2 fa310tx netgear cards. The 310 uses tulip.o, and I have one working on Coyote linux 1.3.0 I have a fa311tx using the natsemi.o driver on RH 7.1 with no problems so far. I have heard that some of the 311 cards are improperly programed from netgear, and autodetect as a 312. the fix for this can be found here
http://www.netgear-support.com/ts/do...s/FA311upd.zip
I hope this helps somone...
