This is my first time running Linux so bare with me. I installed Slackware 9 on a semi old system for learning purposes. Everything seems to be running just fine but I cant get my networking to work. My nic card is a Netgear FA311.

My gateway is 192.168.0.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and im not getting any of that on my linux box. It makes me think either the module isnt running or its not properly set up.

If someone could give me a quick rundown on what to check out or if theres a way to manually set it up that would be great. Thanks

i have that nic, it's quite easy:

1. # modprobe natsemi (put that in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules to load at boot)
2. ifconfig eth0 up
3. dhcpcd eth0

and ime, step 2 is usually not even necessary. ifconfig is a useful command to know, though.

if you don't have natsemi as module or built in, you'll have to rebuild your kernel.
