Question Net card config

Hi!

I am not experienced in linux configuration.

I have got recently an ADSL modem connected through a 3Com network card. I succeeded to connect to the Internet and it works fine for some time,
and then the modem stalls. To bring it alive I have to reset the power of the modem. I was told by support to set the network card to half-duplex mode (in win2k I have managed to do that), and that solves the problem.

How can I do that in Linux. I use Mandrake 9.1?

Thank you.

That's a bad modem, not a bad nic. Trust me, I use to work and support cable modems. Take it to your local branch and swap it out for a new one. Those modems should be able to handle full duplex, that's why I would swap it out.

But to do it in Linux, you'll want to use the ifconfig command.

man ifconfig for more details.

I also suspected so, that its a modem problem.

And probably I will manage to replace it. Meanwhile I tried to set it to the half-duplex mode. And I even found that ifconfig should help me with that, and I read its man, of course. Bit there is nothing about ther duplex mode setting in the man. Probably it uses different terms, but I am not too good in this to recogntize that.

And why you call it cable modem? ADSL and cable are different, ore I am wrong?

My bad calling it a cable modem.. probably thinking of one thing typing another..

My bad, you have to set the duplex with an argument with the actual driver.

Check out this page for more details, might not be your exact card but this should help. http://support.3com.com/infodeli/too...0-24readme.txt

Man, I think I need a nap, I'm was way off wasn't I..
