I am a newbie at Linux. I just installed opensuse 10.1 and have my ethernet card configured. The icon says I am connected but nothing when I go to Firefox. I am running DSL, have a paradyne modem and a D-Link DI-605 router. I have NO idea what to do next.
It's probably called konsole or xterm. Look on your menu under "shells" or something like that (sorry, not in front of a linux box right now). There might even be a little icon on your menu bar that looks like a black computer screen. That's usually a console.
If your router is configured to forward DNS (as most are), you could try entering the address of the router as your DNS in Linux.
For most ISPs in the UK, if you look at their online tech support/FAQ you can usually find the DNS addresses you need, although it can take a bit of hunting around. I'd guess this is true for ISPs in other countries too!
I typed that into the command line and ping unknown.
Do I do anything with DSL device or DNS server, or HTTP server settings?
I do have the DNS IP and the PPPoa IP, if that helps?
Maybe my network card is screwed up, I might of configured it wrong.
My router IP and Modem IP are different from what I see.
What is going on here, other say it is so easy if you have a router. This is starting to get old and I ready to give up. I am the only one in these forums with this problem?
