need help with backtrack 4

i am running backtrack 4 pre-final when i try and use the kismet my card wont go into monitoring mode is there a fix for this without having to get a new wireless card it is an atheros wireless card i need to be able to get it into monitoring mode to use the kismet.

try manually with:
ifconfig wlan0 down
iwconfig wlan0 mode monitor
ifconfig wlan0 up

tried it said set failed on device wlan0 device or resource busy
