Need help setting up a media server

I have a Zyxel NSA310 media server I would like to set up so I can backup files over the network. It has an FTP function, but I really just want to use the Windows share network (SMB) to do the backup. Right now the media server will let me browse the shares, but it won't let me upload. Can someone help me with this? I've had NAS's before but never a media server, and I can't find anything in the options that will allow me to do this.
