Need help printing from Windows 8.1 to Linux

I have tried my best to read and understand the various tutorials on the web for IPP printing to Linux but so far there hasn't been a single groan emitted from my HP LaserJet 1020. The distros I use are Manjaro and SolydX, both in Xfce. When in Windows 8 I specify the URI as:

http://(IP address):631/printers/HP-LaserJet-1020

I get my print server's IP address using the command 'ip addr'. Also I have never been able to share any files over the network.

All right I solved the problem by using Linux Mint 17 instead of SolydXK. For some reason it detected the printer just fine in Windows 8. I'm still a little weirded out about IPP not working - oh well.
