need help! activate eth0
Hi, I'm relatively new to linux. I'm using Red Hat 7.3 and I've installed it before without a problem but after switching to a newer mb/cpu, my network card wont activate. Can anyone please help me out? I posted some of the usual information people request to see when this question comes up. If you need to see anything else, please just tell me.

The command netconfig will setup your NIC.

I've tried the netconfig as well. I click dhcp then ok and the netconfig screen closes.
What steps do I have to do afterwards? Is there a certain process to get it done? like a certain order of typing in the commands? |
If the device comes up under ifconfig and doesn't get a lease from dhcpcd (which is what if-up calls), then it might be hardware. Before calling bum card, make certain everything is plugged in wire to wire correctly. Also, if you choose dhcp under netconfig and it just exits, its exiting clean, which should mean that it got a lease... does your dhcp server have all the proper information being handed out on the leases?

Thanks for the replies. The card isnt a bum tho because I'm using Windows XP and it works fine.
About the dhcp server having proper information being handed out on the leases... how can I check this? I'm not sure what this means. |
What DHCP server are you using?

My doubt concerns the tulip card/driver. I used it with windows without a problems whereas under linux many times I lost link.
See http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=41128 - it look like the similar problem |
