named and cname record

Hello

I have a question with named and cname records. I wrote a CNAME record into a zone yesterday:

valami.teszt.hu. IN CNAME teszt.hu.

teszt.hu has an A record:

teszt.hu. 14400 IN A val.id.I.P

I restarted named.

My problem is: when I visit valami.teszt.hu I get the "Apache is functioning normally" message, and not teszt.hu.

And if I write an A record for valami.teszt.hu instead of CNAME record ( valami.teszt.hu. 14400 IN A val.id.I.P), the valami.teszt.hu will display
message mentioned above too.

thanks
hs

Hi and welcome to LQ,

Without apache configuration, I can only guess that you need to create/configure a new VirtualHost (valami.teszt.hu) in apache, with a different DocumentRoot than teszt.hu.

Hello

Thansk for your answer, but I guess CNAME record should work without virtual host.
In the previous example, the next record exists in zone:

mail.teszt.hu. IN CNAME ghs.google.com.

and if I visit mail.teszt.hu, I redirected to ghs.google.com, but mail.teszt.hu virtual host does not exist in related httpd.conf.

Hello

Problem is solved. The user wanted, when somebody visits valami.teszt.hu, he is redirected to teszt.hu. I added valami.teszt.hu to ServerAlias in related httpd.conf file, and deleted CNAME record from zone.

Solution was in httpd.conf, thanks bathory.
