Name resolving problem


Hello,

I use Fedora 3 behind a router. I use ADSL internet. Networks worked properly but at time I can't access any host. All hostname are reported as unknown.

How can I check whether my ISP nameserver goes done or my OS has a problem? (I can access this machine only via terminal.)

Here are my settings:
[root@myfedora bali]# ping ***
ping: unknown host ***
[root@myfedora bali]# cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 192.168.1.254
[root@myfedora bali]# /sbin/route -n
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0

browse to http://192.168.1.254/

--> find the status page, and get the nameservers from your router.

--> fix /etc/resolv.conf to drop your router as nameserver, and use the ones from your ISP.
