Question nagios sigterm


i am seeing quite a few sigterms when looking at the service details on several hosts in the nagios logs. anybody know what causes this or how to narrow it down.

[05-01-2003 17:19:06] Nagios 1.0 starting... (PID=15533)
[05-01-2003 17:19:06] Caught SIGTERM, shutting down...
[05-01-2003 17:13:58] Nagios 1.0 starting... (PID=14227)
[05-01-2003 17:13:58] Caught SIGTERM, shutting down...
[05-01-2003 17:10:42] Nagios 1.0 starting... (PID=13350)

well, its not as bad on a box where i shut down just about everything.
