n00b | Network wont even activate


i dunno what im doing wrong as far as i know dhcp is an auto config for network and it wont activate..... i have no idea on what to do any could anyone send a link on a howto to set up a modem sharing tut... thx guys

What distro are you using? I don't understand what your problem is exactly. You are on a network that has dhcp but your not getting an ip?

Im Useing Redhat 8.0 and im not sure howto set up the network card right it has seemed to install the drivers fine but when i hit activate it says cannot active eth0

Go to SystemSettings->Network and see if your network card is configured to get an ip via DHCP.

yeah it is set to optain ip useing dhcp i havent changed any settings in there

"localhost" will work.

Do "lsmod" and look for 8139too in the output, if it's not there you need to load it with "modprobe 8139too".
