I run an Asus EEE1215M, and my wireless connection goes through a router next to my television set. The connection worked very well until 4 days ago. I have another computor with ubuntu that connects using the same router and it was not affected. I use ubuntu with LXDE, initially with 12.04, but I thought upgrading might solve my problem, so I'm now with 12.10 and the same problem. The hardware switch is on. The network controller is Broadcom BCM4313. iwconfig just shows : "eth0: no wireless extensions, l0: no wireless extensions". The Network Manager icon on the panel does not display any access points. "Networking" is checked. Wuth "Network connections" from the main menu I can edit the name of my wireless access point and put the password, but this doesn't make any difference. In NetworkManager.conf under ifupdown "managed" is false, but I think that is normal. In the log files (which I haven't succeeded in transferring), the first indication of trouble is:"FATAL cannot load /lib/modules/3.5.0-19-generic/modules.dep no such file." And actually there is not such a file, because the intermediate link is not 3.5.0.19 but 3.5.0-17. Then the log goes on with bluetooth complaining for pages, and then with NetworkManager seeming to be succeeding to identify the access point, but then we have "(eth0) deactivating device (reason 'managed') [2]." iwlist does not identify my router:"interface does not support scanning".

Maybe the card is bad. Or there is a BIOS setting that is messed up (many systems have a PCIe shut off switch in the BIOS).

I can't find a switch in the bios. By using Knoppix I can connect to the internet. This makes me think the card is all right. What next?

Did you reinstall the hardware drivers after you upgraded to 12.10?

Thanks. I did not reinstall the the drivers when I updated to 12.10, but the connection was not working with 12.04 How do I identify the drivers?

My problem has solved itself. Unsatisfied with the LXDE desktop without the internet connection, I tried to install Gnome remix 12.10, but got errors, and then Mint 12.04, aagin with errors. In desperation I tried Gnome12.10 on the disk from Linux Magazine. This time I let the installation take out all my own files, and when installation was finished my internet connection was up, and it has come up now every time I log in.
