My Redhat Box suddenly stops internet access LAN Ok..HELP
Hi... anybody please help... I have 2 linux box running redhat linux 7.2, the internet connection is via adsl router, they are all connected to the same hub and same ip network, the ips are public. the problem is that the box all of a sudden stops getting internet access through the adsl router, although I can ping the other pcs in the LAN, the odd thing is that windows machine was able to connect...
when you say "suddenly stops" are there *any* events at all leading up to this or does it literally stop in the middle of loading a web page or downloading an email? also, at the moment it fails what does route (typed in console) show you? and what's in your /etc/resolv.conf at that point?
suddenly stops meaning, in the middle of the day suddenly nobody can access the net because it is gateway server, one thing that bothers is that the DSL router connected to hub is working and the windows machine, but the linux I can ping all the local pc, but I cannot ping any valid ip in the internet (not the domain name), I also check the if dns prob is the issue but no problem with the resolution of names, because windows pc can accees the internet , it just can;t access the net all of the sudden...
I have two linux, one acts as gateway for other pc, it has 2 NIC and the first NIC is connected to the hub where the adsl router is connected and the other NIC is connected to our main hub for LAN, acts like a firewall as well.
All linux has a public ip which supposedly must have a direct internet connection passing through the adsl router
it was working fine with this setup for about a year and the problem is that suddenly internet access stops, I cannot go outside my LAN, but I can still ping the ip of adsl router, but not outside the internet, clearly the physical setup is ok, only the internet access is down. I am pinging from the Linux box to other network.
the odd thing is that I tried to plug a windows box to the hub where the adsl-router and linux, and configured it with a public ip address set the adsl-router ip as gateway, somehow the connection is working, I can acccess the internet... weird
I can't find any articles from the net regarding the problem... any ideas?
There has *got* to be a triggering event for this, after a year of operation and now a problem...how about disk space on the gateway? maybe it's nearly full?
