Multiple Gateways

Hi Linux Gurus,

I have been trying to sort out this problem science a while and I am not an expert in Linux System Admin, this could be a simple problem for an Lniux Expert.

Well, I have two linux firewall systems F1 and F2, which are connected to two ISP's ISP1 and ISP2. The firewall systems have connected with second nic card into the local network which has two more local servers LS1 and LS2.

Now I defined gateway for LS1 and LS2 as F1 and able to access internet from LS1 and LS2 and as well as able to access the services from LS1 and LS2 from outside world using IP Tables Port Farwarding.

Until this every thing works great !

Now about the problem

Let say my firewall system F1, which is assigned as a gateway to LS1 and LS2 failed then I can't able to access some of the service like FTP on my local servers from outside because the gateway server (F1) for my local servers is unavailable.

What I would like to do ?

I would like to setup both my firewall systems as two gateways to my local systems so that if one fails one will act as a gateway, simply like primary / secondary gateways. I am not sure we can assign multiple gateways or not. But logically it seems possible.

Can you please help me on this, If possible please give me a link where I can find detailed instructions as well.

Feel free to ask me if you need any information regarding this problem.

thanks in advance.

I'm not sure that i quite get what it is you're trying to do, but as for "multiple gateways" you should be able to add multiple default routes with different levels of priority. That may handle the primary and secondary part of your idea.

Hope this helps....lemme know...
