As you can tell, I don't post much, I can usually find the information I need either doing searches here or on google. This site has helped me out soooo much in my linux endeavors. Now for my question.

Let me start from the beginning. On my webserver, when someone types in example.net, it takes them to a directory listing. When they type in www.example.net, it takes them to the correct view. I set an alias in my virtualhost container, so either way they type it, it goes where it is supposed to. Is there a way to set that so it works by default without having to use an alias in the virtualhost container?

The reason I ask, is I want to set up another alias for mail.example.net to take them to the email login. I guess my question is Can I set a serverwide default for www to go to the main content and then have a single alias for mail*? Or do I set an alias for each in the virtualhost container and if so, could someone please help me with the details or at least set me down the right path for searching? Everything I have searched for so far talks about setting up AN alias which I know how to do, but nothing for multiple aliases.
