Multiple 3g modems

I am looking at the possibility of setting up a scenario using a redundant desktop and two 3g dongles to see if one can use this to get more reliable and or faster internet access.
More reliable for, if one goes down the other is still there.
Possibly faster because of load balancing.
Firstly is this possible?
The environment I am looking is Slackware 14 and two local cell phone suppliers, namely CellC and Vodacom with a possibility of MTN, any comments on this?

Not sure about reliable but the faster would be only if you could get some ip addresses or domains to go on different connections. Unless your isp has some integrated way to use two modems, it isn't real easy. Some layer 7+ firewalls/routers can select by application to select route.

A common way is to use failover so that when one goes down the other takes up the connection. All that is usually possible in any os using web pages for how to even if from other distro's.
