multihomed server

hey all,

I have a server with 4 NICs in it. for HA and speed I have bonded 3 of them together (eth0-eth2) in my wonderful unmanaged 10/100 switch. 192.168.1.3

eth3 is cross connected via the patch panel to another system so that file transfers can be a 1000/FULL. I have created a 172.1.1.0 network between the 2 hosts.

Problem is that once i connect the cross over NIC thes rest of the network cant see the server.
I am sure it is a routing problem and added
ip route add 172.1.1.0/24 dev eth3

still no luck...

any ideas?

172.1.1.0/24 dev eth3 proto kernel scope link src 172.1.1.0
192.168.1.2/24 dev bond0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.2
169.254.0.0/16 dev eth3 scope link metric 1005
169.254.0.0/16 dev bond0 scope link metric 1006
default via 192.168.1.2 dev bond0

I got it working. problem was that eth3 was being assigned to a different NIC that i thought it was... swapped NICs and boom it worked like a charm...

For the cross-over cable, I would use a private IP in the 10. address space. I'm surprised your 172.1 network address works.
