Multihomed host routing problem..

I have a 2 NIC host running Redhat Linux - eth0 (192.168.0.20) and eth1 (192.168.0.30). eth0 is connected to outside and eth1 is connected to my other device (192.168.0.50) thru a crossover cable.

outside <---> host_eth0...host_eth1 <--crossover_cable-->test_device

I set up a static route in my 2-NIC host so that pkts to test_device go thru eth1. But, I cannot access test_device from outside world (other than from the 2-NIC host).

Could someone help me out?

Thanks..

have you enabled IP forwarding? If not then do the following and try again

echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

OK, I will restate my problem..

I have a box with 2 NICs (eth0 [192.168.0.10] and eth1 [192.168.0.20]). I have connected another device - PDA(192.168.0.30) to eth1 thru a crossover cable.

Only eth0 is connected to outside thru a switch, and eth1 is as good as shorted to PDA.

I have set up a static route from eth0 to PDA thru eth1.
route add -host 192.168.0.20 dev eth1
route add -host 192.168.0.30 gw 192.168.0.20

But, I cannot ping PDA from outside of the 2-NIC box, and also cannot ping fom PDA to outside..

Any pointers as to why this is so??

Thanks..

this could be related to:
routing (route -n)
iptables (iptables -L- v)
settings in /proc/sys/net/ipv4 (ip_forwarding, ping stuff, misc other)

post more info. above, failure msg. + what's working.
sl mritch.
