Multi-Service Machine Including Routing a Good Idea??
Just need some opinions concerning setting up a router for a small LAN in my home.
I realize that for large networks with multiple subnets it is probably a good idea to dedicate a machine to router duities (maybe even more than one). However, is that really necessary if I am only connecting three systems to the router and then going through a cable modem?
I have a server that is doing NFS, NIS, Samba, FTP and Apache and would like to add routing capabilities as well. Am I taxing this 'server' too much by adding routing? My traffic on the LAN is very, very low to begin with. I just dont want to break any other services running on my server.
Thanks for any opinions.
