MPPE is Microsoft Point-to-Point Encryption, to set up VPN tunnels. If MPPE is running, you're connected to a VPN, which puts you on that network. That network has its own rules/proxy servers/etc., for which you'll have to configure your MSN client to use.

If you shut down MPPE, you're on the 'public' internet, which can connect directly. Either configure your MSN client to use your VPN network settings, or leave MPPE shut down when you want to get on MSN.

You will have to answer that yourself. I don't know anything about your VPN or private network proxy setup.

But I have no any porxy settings;
I test this simple case:
Code:
			+---------- +
	PC  --------- 	|  Switch   | 	-----> internet
                     	+-----------+
				|
				|
			+----------- +
 			|A Router    |
			|(Embeded    |
			|PPTP Server)|
			+------------+
				|
				|
			Local network
PC dial up to Router via PPTP client, so MSN login path will be :

PC --> Switch --> Router(WAN) --> Switch --> internet

Maybe MPPE do not support MSN naturally?

Re-read my original post. Once you fire up MPPE, you are connected to the VPN at your site. Your internet traffic is re-routed out your VPN connection...at that point, you are using the VPN to make your internet connection, that's why you need a proxy setting.

The fact that when you shut down MPPE your MSN works shows that.

It's the problem with MTU.
When enable MPPE, MTU will be decreased with 4 again, but windows client do not!
We can google a patch from internet for pppd with MPPE MTU.
