MRTG question

I delay a little to accomplish installing MRTG to analyze my router(s) , but all graphs I generate , are with the same draw.
And are showing 0 Kb/s .
I don't know if I monitoring the wrong interface or similar mistake.
I tried using by command line, not inserting at the cron.
Can someone tell me what is wrong .
Thanks,

No, because (as with your other threads about this same topic), you're not providing any useful details. All you've told us is you're using MRTG, and getting nothing on your graphs. No error messages, nothing about your configuration/setup, etc. We can't guess.

I have given you a tcpdump command string to monitor traffic on port 161...

Don't ask me where I gave it, it's there's 4 threads all stemming from your lack of understanding
of the basic client-server model in a computing environment.

I don't mean to be mean, but are you up to this task?
Try going through Centos Install and Configure MRTG for clues.

No error messages appear since 2 days ago. All previous are uppon SNMP connection.
I have installed mrtg using yum command.

Habitual:
I will read the info you sent, but I don`t think is an installation issue.
The reason:
The graphs are been generated, but they have an empty content.

Thanks ,

So how about ACTUALLY POSTING THOSE ERROR MESSAGES, as you've been asked to?

So let's sum up:
  • Things aren't working
  • You won't tell us the error(s) you're seeing
  • You just re-stated the problem you FIRST POSTED
  • And somehow...there aren't any errors in installation?
You need to go back, and start from scratch. Remove EVERYTHING you installed, delete the directories and start over. Or go to your OTHER two threads and actually read/follow/understand what you're being told. Or get someone else at your office to do this, since it appears you're in over your head.

Your response

I am not sure of your tip: Removing e reinstalling. This is a Windows solution, not UNIX .
But even so,I Am not there. Here is 8pm and I will be back only tomorrow morning
The MRTG runs without error and it makes some graphs, but are empty today and I must do this task in about 10 days .
Thanks,

Right...and this is suggested because you have obviously not followed the installation instructions, tips, documentation, and advice you've been given. So much is probably wrong with your installation, it will be FASTER to do it over, correctly, from scratch.

Then you'd better start paying attention to what you're told, read the documentation, and perform the installation/configuration CORRECTLY. Answer questions when you're asked. You *STILL* haven't given us any real, solid error(s) that you say you're seeing. You said you saw them 2 days ago...do you expect us to GUESS???

What's Windows?
7 posts to find out it's Windows?

Are you sure it's Windows? You're not sure of anything, IMO.

"Unix"? You're all over the map.
"tomorrow morning"? Fries with that?

So you have 09 days to grind it out.

I'm done trying to help you.
You don't answer questions.
You don't know what the software is doing.
You don't know what you are doing.

I have to stop myself here, If I don't it will reflect poorly for Jeremy and LQ.
If it were me, I'd check the snmp data communication with an snmpwalk.

End Transmission.
Nothing personal.

The snmpwalk are working in my two communities like I said before.
There are no erros. The application rans fine, but the graphs are with 0Kb/s.
Any more question ?

Same things you posted previously...yet you STILL don't post the errors you SAY you saw 2 days ago, the results of the MRTG config file test (that we had to look up and spoon-feed you), what command you ran to generate the cfg file with cfgmaker, etc.

I'm done trying to get you to listen and answer questions too. Good luck...maybe there's someone else at your company who can do this for you.

What I mean is, they will always be 0 on the first poll, because it's polling counters. It saves data locally as to what was in the counters. So you have to put it in cron to get actual data. Or run it manually every five minutes or so all day, which sounds un-fun :)

I will do it on Monday. If it works, I will close this thread.
Thanks everyone

A little birdie tells me you'll need http://www.cronsandbox.com/

thomazp 07-11-2016 09:54 AM

I put ]
*/5 * * * * mrtg env LANG=C /usr/bin/mrtg /root/mrtg_netcomro.cfg
But only runs when I type by hand.
What is wrong ?
Thanks

Why aren't you asking "Mr Josiah" what's wrong??? You were spoon-fed instructions a WHILE back...did you bother to READ THEM???? AGAIN:
http://oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/doc/mrtg-unix-guide.en.html

There is a WRITTEN EXAMPLE of what to put in cron, and it sure doesn't match what you have. If you can't read/understand/follow simple instructions, there's no point in posting questions. Installing and configuring mrtg should take about 30 minutes, at most. You've been at it for WEEKS now...because you're not reading or following the instructions, taking advice, or answering questions. Please, get someone else at your company, who actually can DO THOSE THINGS, to install this. Or get "Mr Josiah" to do it...
