Question mrtg and snmp showing only incoming bytes

Hello,
I was setting up my dedicated cobalt but could not make mrtg show the real values for outgoing bytes, only incoming.
I enabled the snmp on the server, and installed mrtg.
Everything seemed perfect until i noticed that only incoming information was being displayed.
The outgoing bytes were always 0.
Where could be the problem? On the snmp or on mrtg? And how do i solve it?

Thank you,

Ivan

Question

Hey there -

I'm having the exact same problem, but with only the second and third NICs in the servers that I'm trying to monitor. I think it is an SNMP problem since the values of the ifOutOctets don't increase. I also have one server where the second NIC isn't registering anything for the ifInOctets or ifOutOctets.

Were you able to find a solution??? I have been pulling my hair out over this one. Everything looks like it should work but it doesn't.

Thanks.

Hello,

I did find a solution for my cobalt Raq. Hope it can help you too. It's an update for the snmp.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I forgot to mention that the servers were Red Hat Linux on Dell PowerEdges.

Apparently this could be a issue with the actual Dell Nics that were factory installed by Dell. Don't know for sure though. Dell hasn't gotten back to me yet. Surprise.

I have other people telling me that the http requests on eth1 or eth2 are actually responded to via eth0. Which to me makes no sense whatsoever. The servers in question are used for web hosting and all the sites are still available, so the traffic has to be transmitting from some NIC and looking and the ifconfig, I don't think that they're going out eth0 otherwise the outbound traffic on eth0 would be huge.

Thanks though. I appreciate. Not eveyone responds to this kind of posts.
