Mount a novell volume
Newbie question
I have Mandrake 9.2 on a i386 box, and I’m trying to mount a Novell 5.1 volume, I have ipx_configure and installed ncpfs and loaded both so when I type slist I can see my servers, and now I am trying to mount my N5.1 Volume with ‘ncpmount –S nameofserver /Sys –U nameofuser’ and I get error msg. Could not find mount point /sys: No such file or dir. Things I tried : To use a different server. To use a different volume. To use a different nameofuser. To use the –b switch. To use just about all switches that make sense. Also tried ‘nwsctrl –S nameofserver –U nameofuser load monitor’ witch does load the monitor on the nameofserver server, I think this shows that at least the connection to the server is good. I know I am missing something but can’t see it, this is the last item in switching my shop over from Bills98 to Linux, but not being able to do something so easy is making me look at BillsXP and no one wants to see that. :) PS I Posted this question on a diffent form and then looked and think it should have been on this one, sorry. :( |
What does the error message say?
I haven't touched Novell via linux for a bit, but I did mount a volume or two, and messed around with ConsoleOne on linux. You do need IPX installed...mount won't do it over IP, even though NetWare 5 has IP running (at least, the last time I checked...less than a year ago). |
when was the last time ncpfs was updated.... the last I messed with it, it only supported NW Servers running bindery emulation... and was totally NDS UN-aware... you could turn bindery emulation on temorarily on the server you are trying to veiw/connect to to check.

I don't know....I can't remember how I got it working. I know I had to have IPX working before the mount worked. It was a bit picky, as I recall.
The server I connected to was NDS (NetWare 5), but it could have been doing bindery emulation....that I'm unsure of (I wasn't the admin of the NetWare server). |

Thanks for the info everyone.
The error msg. says 'Could not find mount point /sys: No such file or dir.' I think that sence 'slist' works that I have ipx configure right, but I could be wrong. And the '-b' switch for ncpmount makes it run in bindery node, yes I also have turned on my novell server. Does anyone know of a form that may be better for this question. |
I assume you've checked the man page?
If I'm not mistaken, I used a GUI program that looked like a novell client (FAT client) in X windows that passed the proper parameters to ncpmount. Try looking for "novell client for linux" and see what you come up with. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that's what I had at the time. |
Hello labbob:
I use ncpfs in RH8, RH9 and Fedora, no problem mounting novell fs. Some ideas ‘ncpmount –S nameofserver –U nameofuser /Sys’ instead of your command: ‘ncpmount –S nameofserver /Sys –U nameofuser’ Where '/Sys' is a local directory already created. Maybe order is important. My novell 5.1 doesn't use IPX but TCP/IP. I didn't configure IPX but I had to install it because ncpfs asked. We have win98 stations too but latests novell client have TCP/IP connection option. I agree, a graphical utility would help too. I made my own using gtk and python. Good luck |
Again...
I forgot to say that 'nameofuser' has to be '.context.nameofuser', for example, in my network it is '.personal.america.daniel' Bye |
