added info

here is my netstat -i :

[root@ns1 root]# netstat -i
Kernel Interface table
Iface MTU Met RX-OK RX-ERR RX-DRP RX-OVR TX-OK TX-ERR TX-DRP TX-OVR Flags
lo 16436 0 38830 494 0 0 0 0 0 38830 LRU
eth0 1500 0 7556891 31990 0 0 0 0 0 234566 BRU

there are no errors in my logs. except I have just started to get a wierd error the last 2 days, I think someone has been trying to abuse my box.

When I start, check, stop a service I get the following error. (using proftpd as example).

[root@ns1 root]# service proftpd start
sh: line 1: /usr/bin/(swapd): No such file or directory
Starting proftpd: OK ]

these 2 incidents related?
