more fun with linksys LNE100tx
this card seems to be quite a hassle with people... now here's my problem
i'm running mandrake 7.2 on a micron pentium II box. mandrake installs fine, but when i tried to configure networking in the install it failed when i tried to use the tulip driver.
logged in as root when i booted up and i went to /lib/modules/2.2.17-21mdk; tulip.o was there, so i tried following the directions for the compiled driver...
first,
depmod -a
then i did
modprobe tulip.o
and i got a message that it couldn't find tulip.o
tried
insmod tulip.o
and got this:
tulip.o: unresolved symbol pci_drv_unregister
tulip.o: unresolved symbol pci_drv_register
i'm still pretty new to this so everything's very confusing here. what do i do now?

how new or old is your card.. usually the box it came in says the version card it is. i have heard there are some problems with the newer version cards they have like with version 4 or 5 i think. i have the same card in all my machines and never have any problems with them.

it's version 4. i actually went out and bought a netgear card because i've already heard about what you're getting at. i'll see if i can get one of them to work before it's too late to return the thing.

Interesting. I don't have anything but Linksys cards(versions 1.0 - 4.0) in my 4 PC's at home and I've yet to have a problem with them. Just an idea, but maybe you should consider upgrading to a newer distribution. I mean Mandrake is up to 8.1 now.. You can get the Cd's for < $10 from cheapbytes. I use mostly RedHat but I've had no problems with Mandrake either.

Well actually, i had a problem with RedHat 7.2 and my LNE100TX v.2 on my old computer. RedHat detects this adaptor fine (its a LNE100TX v.4).

Did you compile pci-scan.o before compiling tulip.o?
Tulip.o is dependent on pci-scan.o, and among other things, will yield unresolved symbol errors if pci-scan.o isn't loaded first. If you haven't compiled pci-scan.o, get the source and instructions at Donald Becker's Tulip driver support page.
After compiling both, do "depmod -ae" to update the dependency tree. If you get no errors, do "modprobe tulip" (not modprobe tulip.o).
