Monitoring eth0 bandwidth usage

I've tried every monitor I can find. They all do the same thing, and I'm not sure why.

Running latest Ubuntu.
Router is Cisco 3640. Switch is Cisco 2950.

When monitoring eth0, the bandwidth seems to jump every other reading. It jumps between 0 and the actual reading.

Linked is a screencap of me downloading a file and saturating my pipe.

Any idea what is going on? The download itself doesn't seem to jump around, only the monitoring applications. It's quite annoying as it's a pain to try to see the current usage.

Very strange. Try this one. Looks like a bug in the monitoring app.
