Im trying to get my internal pctel modem to work. I found some directions online and followed them. I downloaded the pctel-0.9.4.tar.gz and compiled it. Then the instructions said to insmod pctel.o and insmod ptserial.o. This is where I get stuck. I think this direction was for mandrake instead of RedHat. So, can anyone help me with this? How do I get my modem to work in RH 7.3? When I try insmod <file>, the bash shell doesn't seem to recognize the command. It gives me a command not found message. If I do a man insmod, it gives me the info for it. module, modprobe and similar commands do the same thing too.
great, thanks, that worked. but now how do i start this thing. still can't dial out to my isp. I'm new here so I'm gonna need some hand holding for a while. Can anyone help?
oh yea... I should add, I've tried kppp to dial out, cant seem to find my modem still. Tried network config. cant activate the connection. Tried to query the modem, no dectection. What else do I still have to add?
Thanks peter_robb for helping me out. I finally got my modem to connect. Well, sometimes, but even when it connects, I cant seem to be able to surf the net. I thought I saw a thread talking about this. I will check it out. Thanks again for all the help.
